BIO – Holly Gruendyke (born 1953)
Although born and raised in Los Angeles, California, I have lived in Norway for over 25 years---most of my adult life. I began studying Tai Chi & Qigong with a Norwegian, ex-ballet pedagogue, Inger Johanne Vesje, in the early 1990s and have practiced diligently with her and on my own through the years. Thanks to my Norwegian teacher in Norway, I have studied various disciplines: Tai Chi (short & long form), Dui Lien, Push Hands and Sword Form. In 2004, I participated in workshops with Chris Luth in Solana Beach, San Diego, CA (Tai Chi in Paradise). In 2005, I took 4 of the 5 levels of the HEALING HANDS discipline (the 5th level being the certified practitioner course) and received certifications for the first 4 levels. Courses were taken at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA, and The Center of Spiritual Development in The City of Orange, CA. After moving to Morro Bay in March 2011, I began teaching Tai Chi (short form, Yang Family, similar to Chen Manching style) and Qigong through San Luis Coastal Unified School District (Adult Education) in Avila Beach and San Luis Obispo. In addition, I have taught privately in Morro Bay. In July 2011, I took a Qigong workshop for emotional balance with Lee Holden at the Santa Cruz Integrative Medicine and Chi Center in Santa Cruz, CA, and was there again in August 2011 for a one-week teacher’s certification program.
QIGONG & TAI CHI CH'UAN (Taijiquan)
I will be teaching classes in Qigong and Tai Chi Chuan for people of ALL ages.
QI-GONG (chee-gong) literally means “Energy Work” and is thousands of years old. QIGONG is one of the five branches of Chinese medicine, where Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Nutrition and Massage are the other four. By practicing QIGONG, you connect to your inner essence on a deep level and strengthen the Life-Force of your being. QIGONG is a form of moving meditation and gentle, deep-breathing exercises, where the circulation of your inner energy, QI, is increased and healing may evolve. QIGONG is a mind-body practice that relieves stress, boosts your immune system, strengthens balance, creates inner harmony and promotes longevity. QIGONG thoroughly oxygenates the cells of your entire body, helping to combat cancer and revitalize your skin. QIGONG can be done standing, sitting or lying down.
The YIN YANG symbol represents opposites creating energy, illustrated by a white fish with a black eye chasing a black fish with a white eye, again chasing the white fish, etc.. The movement they create symbolizes the movement of “QI”--- our invisible, internal LIFE-FORCE ENERGY. By doing slow, deep-breathing movements representing the concepts of YIN & YANG, practicing QIGONG & TAI CHI CH'UAN will create the optimum environment for good health to flourish within us.
